Lobi Traore was a Malian musician based in Bamako, one of the most musical cities on the planet (I hear) and a place I need to visit yesterday. He recorded Rainy Day Blues, his first solo acoustic album, shortly before his untimely and unexpected death. I just discovered this a week ago, and I think Baby Cleo has a good a grasp on Malian as she does English or Russian, which we here speak to her only when not rapt with Traore.
It's a mystical experience being deeply moved by music and singing that you're not even close to understanding. I get the same way with a lot of Cajun music, which I'm ashamed to say I can barely parse sometimes, especially my personal favorite, the inaudible Blind Uncle Gaspard.
